Blind Rivets

Blind rivets are one-sided fasteners used to join materials when the back side of the joint is inaccessible. A tubular body with a mandrel is inserted into a prepared hole, and a pulling action deforms the body to form a bulbed tail against the blind side; the mandrel then breaks off, leaving a finished head. They are available in multiple head styles and in materials such as aluminum, steel, stainless steel, and copper to suit different substrate combinations and environments. Typical uses include sheet metal panels, HVAC ductwork, electrical enclosures, signage, and assembly work in confined spaces where access to the far side is limited. Advantages include single-side installation, relatively fast assembly with manual or powered pullers, and repeatable clamping across a range of material thicknesses. Considerations include selecting the correct grip range and material to avoid galvanic corrosion, providing an appropriate hole size and edge clearance, and acknowledging that most blind rivets are not intended for repeated removal and reinstallation without replacement.
