Rivets

Rivets are permanent mechanical fasteners used to join two or more layers of material where access to the back side is limited or where a vibration-resistant joint is required. Common types include solid rivets, blind (pop) rivets, tubular rivets, and semi-tubular rivets, each suited to different installation methods and material thicknesses. Materials typically include aluminum, steel, stainless steel, and copper, chosen for strength, corrosion resistance, and compatibility with the workpieces. Installation methods range from hand and pneumatic tools for blind rivets to hammering and bucking for solid rivets; some rivets are installed with setting tools that deform the tail to form a secure head. When selecting a rivet consider hole size, joint clearance, shear and tensile load requirements, and the materials being joined to avoid galvanic corrosion. Rivets are commonly used in metal fabrication, automotive, aerospace structures, and general assembly where a permanent, reliable joint is needed.
